Blake Gendebien Slams Washington Corruption as North Country Families Struggle With Rising Costs
“I’m running for Congress to fight corruption, protect taxpayer dollars, restore accountability, and actually make life more affordable for North Country families.” – Blake Gendebien
LISBON, N.Y. — As North Country families struggle with rising grocery prices, higher fuel costs, and the growing cost of healthcare, Blake Gendebien released the following statement on reports that the Department of Justice is creating a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded settlement fund tied to claims of political “lawfare”:
“As a second generation farmer, I got into this race to fight corruption, protect taxpayer dollars, restore accountability, and actually make life more affordable for North Country families. As a political outsider, I see every day that the status quo isn’t working for the people up here.
“Families across the North Country are sitting around kitchen tables every night trying to figure out how to pay the bills, afford healthcare, keep the farm running, and put food on the table, while Washington politicians spend our taxpayer dollars on billion-dollar political slush funds, protect insiders, and enrich themselves at the expense of working people.
“From members of Congress trading stocks, to bankrolling political payback schemes, people are tired of a government that works for the wealthy and well-connected instead of the families who work hard, play by the rules, and keep this country running.”
Earlier this year, Gendebien unveiled a congressional reform package aimed at rooting out corruption and restoring trust in government, including:
-
Banning members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks;
-
Ending the abuse of presidential pardon powers;
-
Requiring a five-day work week for Congress;
-
Establishing congressional term limits;
-
Suspending congressional pay during government shutdowns; and
-
Requiring members of Congress to live in the districts they represent.
