Anthony Constantino’s Campaign Exposed for Deceiving NY-21 Voters
LISBON, N.Y. — Just weeks out from filing, out-of-touch millionaire Anthony Constantino was caught “paying someone to collect ballot signatures who was arrested twice for forgery,” according to recent reporting.
Constantino hired Christopher Bernstein to collect ballot signatures, despite Bernstein having a criminal record “for forging signatures on a petition to put a local judge on the ballot.” The report further details a video from Fort Edward showing Bernstein door-knocking for Constantino while refusing to say the candidate’s name. Instead, Bernstein identifies himself as working “on behalf of the Republican Party” – blatantly deceiving voters about Constantino’s support in the district.
Confronted about his campaign lying to voters, Constantino claimed he “didn’t know who Bernstein was.”
“Between paying individuals with a criminal record of undermining the democratic process and laying off dozens of hardworking people, Anthony Constantino has proven he’ll do anything to advance his own interests, including blatantly lying to North Country voters,” said Blake Gendebien’s Campaign Manager Michael Waller. “Constantino is an out-of-touch millionaire who puts his own bottom line first, just like Washington politicians who have failed the North Country for years. In contrast, Blake Gendebien will be an honest and transparent representative who will always hold himself accountable to his community members.”

One of those hired to collect signatures on Constantino’s behalf — Christopher Bernstein — was previously arrested in 2014 for forging signatures on a petition to put a local judge on the ballot.
-
On Thursday, Constantino said he didn’t know who Bernstein was and that he has a “petition manager” responsible for contracting the signature gatherers. Constantino said he’s paying the petition manager for the work.

A video reviewed by Playbook shows Bernstein collecting signatures in Fort Edward, Washington County, for Constantino without saying the candidate’s name. Bernstein identifies himself as door knocking “on behalf of the Republican Party” — despite the fact that the Washington County GOP unanimously endorsed Smullen over Constantino.
